Spring Meeting

April 29th and 30th 2005

 

 

The spring meeting was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Murfreesboro TN on April 29th and April 30th 2005 .

 

TN Chapter President Susan Scearce called the meeting to order at 8:30 am . Chaplain David Perry gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance. President Scearce made the mornings announcements including information on the CEU's available thru the IAEI for people staying for the full 10 contact hours (1 CEU). President Scearce welcomed and introduced Special guest James Kennedy, Southern Section President.

 

The instructional program covered the 2005 NEC Analysis of changes and was presented by instructors, John Minick (NEMA) and Amos Lowrance (City of Chattanooga ). The class was proctored by TN Chapter board members Jerry Archer and Susan Scearce.

 

Lunch was provided for all participants by the TN Chapter at the Doubletree Hotel restaurant.

 

The meeting resumed at 1:00pm with the election and appointment of officers.

 

Mike Evans, chairman of the auditing committee accepted the audit for the fiscal year of 2004.

 

Rusty Thompson, chairman of the nominating committee called forward the nominees for the 2005 TN Chapter Board officers and members.

 

Southern Section President James Kennedy installed the new Chapter Officers and Board Members.

Spring Meeting

April 23 and 24, 2004

The spring meeting was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Murfreesboro , TN on April 23, and 24, 2004.  Registration began at 7:30 a.m. on April 23, 2004 .

Tennessee Chapter President H. L. England called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.

Chaplain, David Perry gave the invocation and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

President England made the mornings announcements and reminded everyone of the upcoming section meeting in Wilmington , NC .

The Tennessee Chapter wishes to thank the following exhibitors for their support and contributions.

Arthur Evans – Underwriters Laboratories was unable to attend, but sent the 2003 UL white books with Mark Ode .

The Tennessee Chapter wishes to extend special thanks to John Minick of NEMA and to Mark Ode of UL for their support and many contributions in presenting the educational seminars at the biannual meetings.

Wayne Anthony of Modulight gave a presentation on their new product, a class 3 power limited lighting system for lay in, low bay and high bay lighting applications.

John Minick and Mark Ode presented a program on one and two family dwellings including services, grounding, and calculations.  Also covered was fault current and short circuit ratings of overcurrent devices.  Joe Feyke presented information from Cooper Bussman on an available downloadable program to calculate fault current.  This website is www.bussman.com

Lunch was provided by the Tennessee Chapter at the Doubletree Hotel Restaurant.

The meeting was resumed at 1:00 p.m. with the beginning of Chapter business.

Susan Newman-Scearce read a resolution by the Tennessee Chapter for deceased members,

Mr. Lawrence Broome, of Knoxville , TN (father of current member Ernie Broome).

Incoming President Susan Newman-Scearce presented outgoing President H.L. England with a plaque for his distinguished service.

Outgoing President H.L. England presented incoming President Susan Newman-Scearce with the gavel.  President Newman-Scearce gave her acceptance speech and then turned the floor over to code discussion.

John Minick presented a program on single family dwelling unit calculations, standard and optional and when to use which one.

Mark Ode concluded the first day with a presentation of common and uncommon code violations.

President Newman-Scearce adjourned the first day’s meeting at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. , President Newman-Scearce called the meeting to order.

John Minick presented a session on expansion joints and Mark Ode continued with more code violations.

President Newman-Scearce announced the upcoming meeting dates.  The fall meeting will be held on October 15, and 16, 2004 at the Doubletree Hotel in Murfreesboro , TN.   The spring 2005 meeting will be held on April 29, and 30, 2005 at the Doubletree Hotel in Murfreesboro , TN.

Numerous door prizes were given out including a combination VCR/DVD player donated by Modulight.

President Newman-Scearce adjourned the meeting at 12:00 p.m.

Tennessee Chapter

Fall Meeting

November 3 and 4, 2003

The fall meeting was held at the Doubletree Hotel in Murfreesboro, TN on November 3 and 4, 2003.  Registration began at 7:30 a.m. on November 3.

Tennessee Chapter President, H. L. England, called the meeting to order at 8:30 am.

Chaplain, David Perry gave the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.

President England presented Lewis Ryan and Charles West with certificates for 25-year memberships in the Tennessee Chapter IAEI.  Recipients not present were Arch Rowe and Jesse Hesson whose certificates will be mailed to them.

President England recognized former Southern Section President, Bob Dowdy, for his service and achievements.

 President England announced the Tennessee Chapter IAEI website address, www.tniaei.org.

John Minick with NEMA and Mark Ode with UL gave a presentation on articles 230 and 240 of the National Electrical Code (NEC).

Lunch was provided by the Tennessee Chapter at the Doubletree Hotel Restaurant.

Joe Feyka with Cooper Bussman gave a presentation on arc flash hazards and protection.

Mark Ode discussed Article 100 (definitions) of the NEC and how to identify and apply code requirements based on these definitions.

 John Minick continued his presentation on article 240 of the NEC.

Attendance on November 3 was 133.

President England adjourned the first day’s meeting at 4:30 p.m.

President England called the Tuesday meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. on November 4.  John Minick and Mark Ode continued their presentations on articles 230 and 240 of the NEC. 

Attendance on November 4 was 73.

President England adjourned the meeting at 11:30 a.m.

Meeting Minutes Spring 2003

Murfreesboro, Tennessee  

May 5, 2003 – May 6 2003

The 2003 Spring meeting was held at the Garden Plaza Hotel in Murfreesboro TN. on May 5th and 6th . Registration began at 7:30 am. Chapter President Amos Lowrance called the meeting to order at 8:30 am. David Perry (chaplain) led the Pledge of Allegiance and gave the invocation.

Special guest was Robert Dowdy (Southern Section President).

Exhibitors were Joe Feyka (Cooper Bussman), and  Arthur C. Evans Jr. (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.).

The program was comprised of a presentation by Joe Feyka on fault current and overload co-ordination, and an in depth presentation on grounding by John Minick (NEMA) based on the Soares Book of Grounding.

Lunch was provided by the Tennessee Chapter at the Garden Plaza Hotel.

Beginning the afternoon session, the financial report was given and approved by the auditing committee. The resolution committee made its report and a resolution of respect was adopted regarding Bob Scott. The slate of officers for the upcoming year were presented by the nominating committee and approved as read. The new officers were then sworn in by Robert Dowdy. Outgoing Chapter President Amos Lowrance, presented the gavel to the incoming Chapter President, H.L. England. President England then presented Amos Lowrance with a plaque of appreciation for faithful and dedicated service.

Chapter president H.L. England made the following announcements.

The Tennessee Chapter fall meeting will be held on November 3rd  and 4th at The Garden Plaza Hotel in Murfreesboro TN. ( The Garden Plaza Hotel’s name will be changed to the Doubletree Hotel.)

The 2003 Southern Section Diamond Jubilee Meeting will be held on September 7th –13th at The Disney Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando Florida.

John Minick resumed his presentation on grounding. The meeting was adjourned by H.L. England at 4:30 pm.

President England called the meeting to order on May 5th at 8:00 am. John Minick continued his presentation on grounding and also spoke briefly about IAEI membership and the benefits of being a member.

There were 100 inspectors, contractors and students and other interested parties present.

Meeting Minutes Spring 2002

Murfreesboro, Tennessee

April 26, 2002 – April 27, 2002

 

The Spring Meeting was held at the Garden Plaza Hotel in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on April 26 and 27th.

Registration began at 7:30 am. Chapter President Jerry Archer called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.  David Perry (Chaplain) led the Pledge of Allegiance and gave the invocation.

Special Guests were James Carpenter (Technical Correlating Committee Chairman) and Larry Chan (Southern Section President).

Exhibitors were Joe Feyka (Cooper Bussman), Jody Leber ( MET Laboratories Inc.), Ron Stockton (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.), M.R. (Butch) Frost and David Gonzales (Siemens).

The program was comprised of code questions and answers based on the 2002 National Electric Code. The code panelist were Alan Manche (Square D Company), John Minick (NEMA), Ron Stockton (UL), and Larry Chan (Southern Section President). Moderators were Ernie Broome (Chief Electrical Inspector – Knoxville), Bob Dowdy (Chief Electrical Inspector – Nashville), Dennis Gray (Deputy Electrical Inspector – State of Tn.), David Perry (Chaplain), and John Carpenter.

Lunch was provided by the Tennessee Chapter of the IAEI at the Garden Plaza Hotel Restaurant.

Chapter President Amos Lowrance made the following announcements.

There will be no fall chapter meeting in 2002.

The 2002 Southern Section Meeting will be held at the Opryland Hotel in Nashville on October 13,14, and 15th.

The person selling the most ads for the program will receive their hotel accommodations courtesy of The Tennessee Chapter IAEI.

Code discussions were resumed after installation of the officers. John Minick gave a power point presentation on Arc Fault Breakers, theory, and technology. The meeting was adjourned by Amos Lowrance at 4:30 p.m.

Amos Lowrance called the meeting beginning on April 27, 2002 to order at 8:00 a.m.

The code panelist continued the question and answer session.

Everyone was reminded to actively pursue the Ad sales and donations for the upcoming Southern Section Meeting.
